FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions at Our PracticeYour first therapy session is an intake session that will last 50-60 minutes. Your therapist may ask about your background, current issues, medical history, and what you hope to achieve in therapy. This helps them understand your needs and plan your treatment.
Your therapist will review your intake forms with you which include a Biographical Intake Form and an Informed Consent Form. It’s important that you read the Informed Consent Form and ask any questions you have as this agreement serves as the foundation of your relationship with your therapist.
Although you’ll be doing a lot of the talking in therapy especially during the intake, therapy is a collaborative process. You can ask your therapist any questions you’d like.
Deciding to enter therapy for the first time or as a seasoned veteran is a significant personal decision. Often people turn to therapy when they and/or their family are struggling with mental health or relationship issues and don’t know what to do to improve the problem.
Here are some signs that you or your loved ones might need therapy.
You might consider therapy if you:
- Feel overwhelmed by emotions like sadness, anger, or anxiety
- Have difficulty coping with everyday life
- Experience sudden changes in mood or behavior
- Have trouble concentrating or making decisions
- Feel isolated or disconnected from others
- Experience changes in sleep or appetite
- Struggle with relationships or communication
- Feel stuck or unable to move past certain issues
- Have thoughts of self-harm or suicide
There is no shame in seeking help. Asking for help is actually a strength and demonstrates healthy coping. It’s okay to feel unsure. We offer an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and see if therapy might be helpful. You can also start with a few sessions to see how it feels.
Holotropic breathwork is a therapeutic breathing technique developed by psychiatrist Stanislav Grof and his wife, Christina Grof. It aims to facilitate emotional and psychological healing and self-discovery through accelerated breathing, evocative music, and focused energy work. The potential benefits of Holotropic Breathwork include:
Emotional Release: Helps in releasing pent-up emotions and trauma.
Self-Discovery: Facilitates deep self-exploration and personal insights.
Stress Reduction: Promotes relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety.
Improved Mental Clarity: Enhances mental clarity and emotional well-being.
Spiritual Growth: Can lead to spiritual experiences and a greater sense of connectedness.
Bianca teaches group classes locally which are listed on Instagram @youarecomplete. Private sessions for small groups, couples and individuals are available upon request.
People with certain medical conditions, such as heart disease, epilepsy, severe mental health disorders, high blood pressure, or recent surgeries, should avoid holotropic breathwork. Pregnant women are also advised against participating.
We do not accept insurance. If you have out of network mental health coverage your therapist can provide you with a superbill monthly to submit to insurance for reimbursement. The amount of reimbursement will depend on your insurance plan and you may have to meet a deductible.
If you don’t have out of network mental health coverage and cost is a factor we offer a sliding scale to accommodate various budgets.
Billing occurs at the end of each month for the sessions that occurred during that month. Clients provide a credit or debit card upon intake to be kept on file for monthly billing. You may request an invoice from your therapist. Balances must be paid by the 15th of each month or your therapist may refrain from scheduling additional sessions until the settled.
It’s helpful to complete the intake documents and return them to your therapist at least 24 hours before the session so they may review before your intake session. This will allow your therapist to maximize your time together. If you have trouble completing any of the intake forms please don’t hesitate to ask your therapist for help.
Here are some tips for your first therapy session:
- Be Honest: Share openly about your feelings and experiences. This helps the therapist understand you better.
- Be Patient: Building a therapeutic relationship takes time, and progress might not be immediate.
- Ask Questions: Clarify anything you’re unsure about, including the therapist’s approach and what you can expect.
- Set Goals: Think about what you want to achieve in therapy and discuss these goals with your therapist.
- Take Notes: If it helps, jot down key points or questions you want to remember or ask in future sessions.
Remember, seeking therapy is a positive step towards improving your mental health and well-being. The first session is just the beginning of a journey toward understanding and healing.
